United Energy Trading Wins Major Award for Decade of Fundraising for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society

October 4, 2017

United Energy Trading (UET) has won national acclaim from The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) for 10 years of partnering with the “Light the Night Walk,” a yearly nationwide fundraising event. Every year, LLS Regional Chapters nominate individuals, groups, and companies in recognition of their fundraising in support of the Society. This was the first year that UET was eligible for the prestigious Silver Level, Partners Against Blood Cancer Award. Hannah Cohen, the Senior Campaign Manager for Light the Night, Rocky Mountain Chapter, couldn’t wait to nominate the hard-working employees of UET. When asked why, she praised the commitment UET has shown to the Society and its mission of finding a cure for blood cancers. “Lots of companies get involved, do big things for a few years, and disappear. Every year for the past ten years, [UET] has raised more than the previous year, and that is a very rare achievement.”

Creating a lasting change in the world is difficult, but LLS has done exactly that for decades now. With passion and devotion, the Society tirelessly advocates for and funds research into cures for blood cancers, raising over 1.2 billion dollars cumulatively. These outstanding fundraising efforts have facilitated the development of at least 18 new drug therapies, all approved by the FDA, and they have supported patient services, educational programs, monetary assistance, and emotional support.

UET’s stands in admiration of these extraordinary efforts by LLS as do many across the country, though our support has a distinctly personal note as four of our employees and families have been directly touched by the terrible effects of these diseases. At UET, participation in their fundraising for LLS is not mandatory for employees; rather, it is their choice. Each year, individual employees challenge themselves to reach out to their own communities, to give every year, and more than the last year. In 2017, UET became the first Friends & Family team to break $50,000 in donations.

Tom Williams, President of UET, stated, “Our team has been dedicated to this cause for 10+ years, so we are delighted to receive such an honor and recognition from the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.” Led by the tireless efforts of UET’s Heather Kinghorn, “the honor has given our team an extra boost of motivation and enthusiasm to continue raising funds to support those that are relying on promising cancer research and patient support services. We believe that each year we can do more to help find a cure to end blood cancers and we are extremely proud of the difference we are making in our community.”
